the golden compass

this weekend we saw the film 'the golden compass'.  wow!  what a movie!  we loved it.

in fact, we loved it so much, we watched it four times.  what an incredibly interesting, and thought-provoking story.  the film is based on a children's book of the same title by author philip pullman.  the story is about a girl named lyra, who lives in a parallel universe to ours.  in this universe, the soul lives in an animal (like a totem) that is always at your side.  the story covers a chain of events, adventurous and heroic...and completely and wonderfully philosophical!

i really loved the very beginning of the film when it talks about how the veil is thinning between our world and whatever worlds may exist, and how we're all connected by 'dust'.  a beautiful theory...which, if you think about it makes beautiful sense even when viewed from a religious perspective.  just spend a few minutes giving it some thought and you'll see what i mean.

i do believe the veil is thinning...the idea of which inspires me and makes me happy.  it inspired the beginnings of a little song which you'll find a snippet from below.
